About The Club

The Club has existed in various forms and flown model aircraft from the present general location since the late 1940’s. It became ‘Loughborough Model Flying Club’ in March 1980 and is the only club of its type in the Borough of Charnwood. We are a friendly and approachable group of model fliers, with a number of experienced members, willing to assist others in the pursuit of the sport. We are predominately a fixed wing club, using electric and IC power. Gas turbines are excluded.

Membership is available to anyone – there isn’t any age or physical limitation to becoming a member. However there is a maximum membership of 100. The sport of model aircraft building and flying is non-seasonal, unlike some other sports, so you can maximise the return on your investment by participating throughout the whole year. The LMFC membership fee covers one year running from the beginning of January to the end of December.

The majority of formal business in running the club is conducted openly at our monthly meetings, such that all members are able to voice their opinions. Whilst it is not unknown for some topics to generate very lively comment and strong opinions, these open meetings are a most beneficial way in which to ensure the club fairly represents the views of its membership. The annual general meeting is held in December. So why not come along to one of the meetings and let us have your views, as well as taking the opportunity to talk to other members about the more interesting aspects of being a member of LMFC i.e.building and flying model aircraft.

As a member of LMFC you are required to have Third Party Public and Products Liability insurance which can be readily obtained through the Club. One final point to all those who already enjoy taking part in our sport, please make safety in all you do as top priority.

Wymeswold Field

This is a private site for members only

Access to the site is via a padlocked gate. For security reasons, the combination number must not be disclosed to anyone who is not a member of LMFC. Extra caution must be exercised when taking off/landing over the footpath/bridle path to the south of the field.

An aerial view of the field (shown below) on which is marked the flying pattern which we need to adopt to keep 30 metres from the hedge line at the North of the field. This is imperative because of people working for True Plant hire the other side of the hedge. If flying clockwise circuits then the tree as shown on the aerial view is the marker to show the point at which you need to have turned right. If flying anti clockwise circuits then the place to turn is at the cabins and head for the marked tree. Pilots should stand further South than where the pilot box is now. In due course we will move the pilot box. As we all need to learn to fly this new circuit, can I please ask that we all help each other in learning this new pattern.

People are only permitted to fly solo if they have passed the BMFA ‘A’ certificate. All IC powered aircraft must pass a noise test as described in the BMFA handbook.
